What is home mosquito spraying? Home mosquito spraying is a form of pest control that involves the use of insecticides to reduce or eliminate the mosquito population in an area. Spraying is typically done outdoors and uses a chemical mist or fog to kill mosquitoes on contact. This method of pest control can help to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, as well as annoyance from the buzzing insects.
What chemical is used? Bifen IT with Bifenthrin 7.9% is a flowable multi-purpose insecticide. Bifen IT has a long residual control with a product label of over 75 insects. This broad label on Bifen IT includes turf and ornamental applications, food handling applications, indoor and outdoor applications, and termite treatments. Bifen IT is a synthetic pyrethroid and a low odor chemical.
Will the mosquito spraying completely eliminate all the mosquitoes in my yard? No, using Bifen IT will not eliminate all the mosquitoes in your yard. It will reduce the population of mosquitoes, but it will not completely eliminate them. Since mosquitoes are a flying insect some will find refuge from the spraying or fly in from neighboring yards after the treatment. The more consistently you spray, the fewer mosquitoes you will have.
In addition to spraying for mosquitoes, is there anything else that I can do to decrease the amount in my yard?
Yes, here are a few tips:
1. Remove standing water around the home, as it can provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
2. Utilize mosquito traps or bait stations to reduce the mosquito population.
3. Use LED or yellow bug lights around the home to reduce the number of mosquitoes.
4. Plant certain mosquito-repelling plants such as marigolds, eucalyptus, citronella, and lavender in your garden.
